DHAKA, Jun. 13, 2016 –Chevron Bangladesh marked World Environment Day by kicking off its 2016 tree plantation drive at Rajuk Gulshan Central Park at a simple ceremony earlier today. Chevron Bangladesh President, Kevin Lyon, inaugurated the proceedings at an event that was also attended by selected senior management and staff from its Dhaka headquarters.

The event was led from the front by the Bangladesh chapter of Chevron’s XYZ group – an employee network to connect, develop and inspire Chevron’s workforce through innovative opportunities that are aligned with its business objectives to ensure the corporation’s future success. Other officials present included Chevron’s Operations Director, Gordon Murray, and External Affairs Director, Naser Ahmed.

Chevron President, Kevin Lyon said, “Environmental stewardship has always been one of Chevron’s core values, and World Environment Day presents an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that. Whenever possible, we’ve always encouraged our employees to take part in our corporate responsibility initiatives. And they’ve always enthusiastically stepped forward to help - whether it’s through planting trees in and around our gas plants, donating blood at our annual donation drives, or by building homes for the underprivileged with Habitat for Humanity”.

As part of Chevron Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts in the area of environmental stewardship, the company has been involved in tree plantation drives since 2005. Over the past eight years, over 130,000 timber-yielding, fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings have been planted in different areas near its three gas plants in the North-East of the country.
